Our story

Why we’re ready to buy the home we've loved since 1989

​

For over 35 years, Ananda Community has been the spiritual heart of our work in the Bay Area — home to families, seekers, teachers, and friends who’ve built a life together around a shared vision of God-centered living. Now we have the chance to own this ground outright, so it can stay a spiritual home for generations of devotees to come.

Our Master Lease has protected this community’s right to remain here for 50 more years — a promise made by the original investors and honored ever since. We're deeply grateful for that. But some of our founding investors — dear friends who have supported this community since the beginning — now wish to sell. That’s understandable; circumstances change.

It has meant a long season of working things out together, through meetings and now arbitration. Wherever that process lands, we want to be ready to do what Swamiji always hoped we would: own this land ourselves, so no future disagreement, market shift, or change of heart can ever again put our home in question.

• A permanent home — not leased or in jeopardy of being sold

• A stronger foundation for service, free of rent obligations to outside investors

• A gift to the next generation of families and devotees who find their way here

• A resolution held with grace toward our friends who helped make this community a reality from the beginning

How you can help

We’re inviting fellow members of our extended Ananda family to help secure this home for the future of Master’s work in the Bay Area — permanently, through loans, donations, and prayer.

• Make a loan. Structured, secured loans from members of our community, with terms designed to be fair to lenders and sustainable for the community. Full documentation and transparency are very important to us.

• Make a gift. Every donation, of any size, helps us build the reserve we need to move quickly and confidently when the moment comes.

• Hold us in prayer. We ask for your prayers for a fair, generous, and harmonious resolution for everyone involved, including our friends among the current investors.
